Kansas Turkey Opener
«
on:
April 01, 2012, 10:30:00 PM »
Went out this morning for the Kansas turkey opener. My father-in-law is not an archery hunter but wanted to join me in the blind. We both saw quite a show all morning. Lots of birds around. Here's a view outside the blind about 7:40 am.

A closer look
This was the dominant bird in a group of 4 adult gobblers and 5 jakes that came in together. What a site at 10 yards!

This is a pic of the setup and the full strut decoy they were picking a fight with. Bad move.

He had a 10-1/4" beard but it was very thin and scraggly.
He made up for the beard with 1.5 inch hooks!!
He weighed 23.5 lbs. This pic is of one happy turkey hunter!
Thanks for looking and good luck to all this spring!

Great job Billy! I didn't get out today, but I'll have time this week. Hope I'm as fortunate as you on finding the birds.

You going to stop by on your way Charlie or on your way back?
