Problems with brass inserts?
«
on:
July 28, 2007, 10:45:00 AM »
I bought a dozen 50g.brass inserts for some blackhawk carbon arrows and only 8 or 9 of them want to fit all the way into the shafts. The other 3 or 4 just will not push all the way in. Is this a bad batch, or is this a common problem? Thanks for any help.

I've only used about 3 doz. but never had a problem. One doz. was on blackhawk arrows.

Were they new arrows or arrows that had other inserts removed?

Never had that problem, but you might want to try one of the brass brushes used to clean a 30-06 and run it through the end of the shaft a few times, especially if they have had inserts glued inside them before.

What Curt and BD said...don't be too quick to blame the inserts.

Had that problem one time and when I began investigating there were already inserts inside the arrow.

BD is on the right track, but make it a 24 cal /6mm brush. 30 cal will not fit.If you do get it in removing it will be very hard at best.
I have never seen inserts oversized, but have seen arrows with glue inside.

The only problem I ever had with the inserts was the threading. I had a batch that there was still brass shavings in the threads, so I could not get points to screw in all the way. Shawn

Thanks for the replies guys, but the arrows are brand new with no inserts or glue ever put in them. I cut them myself, and even ran a cleaning brush inside of them like you suggested, but it didn't help. I did remove a problem insert and installed another with no problem, so there has to be an inconsistency with the inserts.

Take the ones out that fit and try them in the other arrow's.Maby you can determine which is at fault.

I believe that is what I just said in the previous post. It has to be the inserts. I know that it is. I was just wondering if anyone else had ever had this problem. I guess I am the only one. I also noticed everyone else was using 100g. inserts and mine are 50g. Maybe I should have gotten the 100's.

I've had about 3 out of 3 dozen that I've purchased with the same problem.
