Shame on me!
« on: April 05, 2012, 02:52:00 PM »
My little one has been asking me to string his bow I made him so he can shoot in the yard. Well I kept having an excuse not to do it for this and that reason because I have to supervise, get his arrows and guide him ect. ect. Well today I did it because I had promised him the night before. And after I got it done and was working with him I had a wave of guilt and shame come over me as to why those other things were so much more important then this. I realized how easy it is to take for granted what we have and forget the sheer joy it is to have a child around who loves and wants to be with you. Here is the tough guy and his bow today...

60's Bear Cub    45#@28"
Samick Stingray  50#@28"
Hickory self bow 55#@28"
HH Big 5 Longbow 65#@28"
Bears paw T/D LB 75#@28"

Nice, it's human nature not to appreciate something we get to have anytime we want it. You may have just lit a fire that will never burn out with your procrastination.

From the looks of that face I wouldn't make that mistake again. That is pure determination right there, and next time he might just be determined to make you pay for it.   :biglaugh:

Enjoy it while he's young, all to soon they are grown and leaving the nest and you wondering "what in the world just happened to the last few years."

I really like reading posts of parents or grandparents hunting or shooting with their children. My daughter used to hunt and shoot with me when we lived in Colorado and she was younger. Memories I will never forget.

Look up at the top at Curt and Cade. That's one proud father and an even happier son. In the grand sceme of things. That to me is what it is all about. Passing our sport and heritage down to the next generation.

Good Job Patrick in taking the time for him and having fun.

That's a great picture! I'd save it and show it to his first girlfriend when she came to the house.

That picture is awesome... make copies and don't ever lose it.  That would make an awesome trad archery commercial.
My last child just left the nest.  You don't ever get second chances... not very often anyway.  There is a lot of guilt, no matter how much you do.  Same goes for parents.  Once they are gone, you can't make up time.

Amazing pic! With that face and the title "Shame on me" I was scared the story was going to end up with an arrow ending up in the wrong place! phew.

It must be wonderful. Congrats on finding the time to teach him something you love - and build him a bow!

I can't wait until my son's old enough to hold a bow.

Thanks for posting.

Good on ya. A "play date" or two each week will prove to be priceless in the long haul.
Although my son doesn't have the "fire" like I do, when he says he'll be home (29 yrs. old)and "we should go hunting", you want to know I go no matter what has to be rearranged. I wish he lived closer...
