New Arrow Goodness
« on: April 09, 2012, 07:18:00 PM »
I have been wanting to go back to hunting with wood arrows for my Hill Longbows for a while now.

I will probably keep shooting our challenging 3D courses with carbon arrows but I want wood to hunt, especially with the longbows.

After figuring out what it cost to build my last dozen myself I decided to let David at Wilderness Custom Arrows do the work this time. Plus I wanted to try the Surewood Fir shafts and while my wood arrows were perfectly functional, they have never been pretty.

They arrived today and I put field points on a few and Woodsmen on the rest and went to the backyard to give them a try.
I guess I have never shot really good wood arrows before because my first three arrows at 15 yards had the feathers snuggled up next to each other in my 3D deer target.
They are not only great to look at, they fly just great too.
Almost too pretty to run through a deer or pig but hopefully that is where they will be going.

Thanks Wilderness!

Frank, nice picture. I like the weathered wood backdrop! So happy to hear they are flying good for you.

RC, yours are coming along...shouldn't be long now.

Beautiful. He'll make a wood arrow believer out of anyone. Those Surewoods are something else.

Frank, I like the contrast of the weathered wood and the new painted wood!    :biglaugh:

Like woodies to with long bows that are not cut to center. Just seem to be more on the mark. My  only problem with wood arrows is they are hard to repair. Most of my target practice I use aluminum. Much easier to fix. Some times I just redo the hole set.
