Dogwood Primitive Arrows
« on: April 10, 2012, 05:12:00 PM »
Over the weekend KHALVERSON and I worked on some primitive style arrows made from dogwood. Kevin also coach me through 3 trade points. We are getting ready for a Primitive Challenge Hunt with Chuck(TwoTracks) and George(Treedancer) this fall. Pics to follow.

Looking really good there.  Love those dogwoods.

I wish I took pics while we were building. We being mostly Kevin  :bigsmyl:  He drilled out the nock end and made a hardwood nock that inserted into the arrow and was tuneable to the shaft! I hope Chuck gets busy with some blanks, I can't hardly pull that old hickory bow anymore!

What is the poundage of the bow you are shooting them out of?

Thanks.  I have a lot of red osier, but they will only spine out to about 35-40 lbs.  Just wondering on your spine.

How long did you have to let those shafts dry?

We need to set up a spine checker station. I'll let Kevin tell about the harvest and drying part of the arrows.

I really wish I had gone and cut some when you did Kevin.
Right now I am eyeballing some kind a bush in my yard that has some pretty hard, heavy and straight branches. I trimmed a pile of em off last fall and might beable to pull a few out of my burn pile. I will have to see about it.
You boys done good,
Treedancer and his 6yr. old grandson, The Buck, Went to the camp today and "took a walk on the wild side"
I bet they had a blast. That boy will tucker 5 grown men when it comes to shooting his bow.
