Thanks Charlie, for posting a pic. Upon entering the field this morning Charlie and I was discussing how everything in Ky was about three weeks early, due to an early and hot spring. The place we've been hunting the last few years are fields. So I was telling him how I thought they would be growed up, so to my speculation upon in the field I was right. So here we are way before daylight stumping a place to pitch a blind, and our decoys, but anyhow. Day broke and we heard some distant gobbling, but nothing close. So Charlie continued to call sparingly, but no sight of a bird other than a distant hen. So about 10:50 were heard a hen cluck very softly, so Charlie began another series. And to our surprise, on the high wall straight in behind our setup was two birds hammering, just about 50 yards above us. Continuing to call the bird sallied down to us at about 35 yards. I couldn't see them from where I was sitting but could sure hear them drumming. Charlie took a peek behind me through one of the blind windows and informed me to get ready they were coming in strutting. So I nocked an arrow, and guess I got tore up, the first shot sailed a little high, but they didn't seem to be spooked, and I had another chance to nock another arrow. But this time it found it's mark. Needless to say all week i've been telling people how everything would just have to be perfect, for us to score on our first attempt at longbow gobblers. But thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ, my personal saviour it did. We roughly guessed the bird to be 21lbs, maybe 1inch spurs and an 11inch beard. Also many thanks to you Charlie, for without you this would never have been possible. Yea I'm hooked now. Can't wait to hear about Charlie's first kill, and hopefully I'm there to see it unfold. I know I'll be as happy and excited as he was about mine. Thanks!!! God bless.
