Option # 1 all the way.

I would easily give up the look of clear glass (as nice as it can sometimes be!) for the little extra performance of black glass. On a hunting bow with the right riser color, black glass can be a very nice "accent" indeed.

Joshua, who hunts a custom longbow with black glass over an elm and bamboo core.

Todd,

Not to confuse the issue at all but my current goto bow is an R/D with black glass over bamboo cores.  This bow is butter smooth through the draw cycle and has blistering speed.  I'm amazed everytime I shoot it, that is when I can keep my friends hands off of it.  :)

I am going with option 1.
Looks better and will probably shoot better.

Well, the bow options I am talking about are for a Zach/ Byron Ferguson Z58 R/D Longbow 66" 55@28. I have decided to go with the standard Diamond wood riser and Black glass. Option #1. My bows right now are all clear glass and having the black will be a nice contrast. Chromebuck, thanks for the photo!

The nicest looking to most people would be clear glass over bamboo laminations (if your question about bamboo included laminations over the cores) covering bamboo cores, but after that I personally would pick either clear or black glass over bamboo cores, depending on what looked best. I like the feel of bamboo cores better than Actionwood, but either makes a very nice core. Forget the speed claims -- there won't be more than 2-3 fps difference between any of the combinations you describe, and that could go any direction depending on the particular pieces of material and the way they work in the bow design you are thinking of buying. It's all good, just get what looks best to you. Your pick of the standard Diamondwood riser and black glass sounds perfect if it is what you think looks best. After all, it's YOUR bow!

Bamboo feels a little smoother to me....but if money is an issue I'd go with choice #1 ....no worries...it will get the job done!

I would do #2, but I bet the freezer will be just as full with #1.
