Old Bear broadheads

I was talking archery with a guy I have known for years who shoots a compound. I told him I had killed a turkey with a longbow. He shared with me that he used to shoot a Bear recurve back in the early 70's and that he thought he had some of those old Bear broadheads from back then.

Here's what he gave me today.
If he picks up a recurve again one day and falls in love again, he may kick himself for gettiing rid of these.

I am going to put a heavy, steel adapter on them and get them up to about 200 grains and use some of the ones that have been shot. They will be with me in the blind Monday.

I wish they still easily available. I killed my first deer ever with a razorhead, so they have always been special to me.

I shoot the same heads with no bleeders and 100 grain steel adapter.  I also have a 50 grain brass insert. It hits hard!

By the way, with 100 grain inserts you would have to modify the. Prefers or it won't be able to be inserted because the adapter is encroaching In the space to slip in the bleeder

I'm glad you are going to hunt with them.       I have a few, & I hunt with them. So far haven't connected with them, maybe one day. I use woodies, Split Hex or Cedar. Now if we used them along with a Bear Bow,,,,, welllllll.

Nice haul!

I started with Bear heads in 1970 and mostly stayed with them until they just became almost impossible to find, around 2000 or so.  

I loved how easy they were to sharpen, they flew well, and without the bleeder put white-tail, mulies, and pronghorn down in quick order.  I'm sure the bleeder was fine but I never liked them much because of the way they fit and I wasn't as good at shapening them.

I recently cleaned out nearly every old one I had and sent to a fellow in Texas for an old Bear Quiver I recall.  

I did have a few of the Bear's come apart in critters with the main blade twisting or breaking free from the ferrule. Of course by then the deed was done and the beast was mine.

I've never seen a need to change from the old style broadheads. The Bear "Razorheads" 125 grains and the Ace "Standard" 165 grain are my heads of choice, and have been since the early 70's. Have I tried anything else? Yes, without a doubt, but I always go back to my roots.

The Razorhead is still around and for a good reason. I love any old archery equipment especially bear products.
