More Turkey Stories Than I've Ever Seen?
«
on:
April 23, 2012, 08:24:00 PM »
Is it just me, or are there a whole lot more turkey stories here than in past years? And successful ones at that!
I've got to think that people have taken what they read on here to heart and said to themselves, "Hey, I can do that!" I can say for sure that I personally have taken my motivation from success stories of others that I have seen posted here.
I used to think that turkeys with trad gear were just about impossible. And I sure have not become an expert, and am struggling in making it happen again myself. But it sure does help to have the positive reinforcement of the success of others to draw on as we set out again to challenge ourselves to the limit!

Whip-I mentioned this on another post about how we learn from eachother and how others motivate us to behave a certain way. The sharing of knowledge on this website is totally awesome! This is a great group of guys/gals that are willing to help in every way! I hope to get a turkey one day with my recurve too! Thanks.

When your matching wits with an animal that has a brain the size of a pea, you might want to go to the brain gym first! And some of our members have!
Lots of how-to tutoring advice posted here that's being taken advantage of.

Glad it's not just me cause I've been thinking the same thing Joe!
Seems like some times all we need to get the job done is for someone to set a good example and we've got a bunch right here.

And it seems like a lot of stories are coming from Kansas. What's with that?

It could also be that a lot of us just decided to start sharing more stories and trip reports on here. It hasn't been until the last couple of years that I've even thought about posting a picture or two and sharing a tale of my hunts. It is good to have the ear of folks who actually care what I do and like to share in my experiences.

I agree Whip, but isn't it great! I know I have looked at joebuck, Guru, KS Trapper, RC, Mr Lamb's et all others for many years and gleamed a ton. It's just great to read post after post of good hunters taking animals...it's kinda contagious! By the way...good luck in NE big fella!

I know for me it was reading about others successes and encouragement that got me think'in maybe I could match my little pea brain against their little pea brain and actually kill one. I had no idea that I would harvest 2 birds the first year.
Two little suggestions: Don't over call and put the decoys really close to the blind, if your using one. That kill zone is pretty small.
My true heroes are you, no blind guys. Maybe next year.

I agree, turkeys have become a bonafiide possibility for archers. I remember after college on my first job as assistant manager of Clark St. forest, (1978) no one in Indiana had killed a turkey in modern times with a bow!
Bayou Bill Scifres (Indianapolis Star) wrote a story about who the state turkey biologist thought would do it. The predicted one didn't do it although he had 5 birds in easy range his first season.
Of course turkey population restoration and even introductions to new range havevreturned this magnificent bird from the brink, thanks to funding by sportsmen.

Totally agree Joe. Anyone on this site can do it. There are no better hunters than here. Remember "LUCK" is the moment in time where preparation and perseverance meets opportunity!
Love seeing all the turkey threads, great job everyone.

Yep I'm impressed to Joe! Turkey numbers are still growing in many places beside Kansas and offering many more opportunities for bowhunters. I can remember when there wasn't any around here, not one

im hoping to add mine to the list this year i have a really good feeling about it if the birds between 10-15 yards out to 20-25 im totally iffy about it if the shot feels good while drawing il try it as i have about a 75% hit ratio at 25 for a youth football

It's what this TG brotherhood is all about. That is, sharing ideas & motivations to success.
Remember not long ago, early days bowhunting antelopes was considered foolish. Not anymore from proven techniques tried & trued since those firsts. More game to shoot at also with prefected conservations. Gold star for Parks & Wildlife Department.
