rummaging around on a saturday
«

Since we moved we needed a lawn mower so the wife and I went out to find one for our small yard (from 4acres of lawn to 60x50, feet that is). Well no lawn mower was unearthed but I did find a couple of knives that I hope to service me well while stumping and preforming my "forest rodent reduction program" and other small duties such as stumping etc.
One is Marbles damascus fixed blade and the other is a Marttiini fixed blade $20 so I won't be out much if they turn out to be tin foil blades. Sharpened well and seemed decent steel though. Both are brand new. Hope I did well.

I have a marbles (was my father's)fixed blade skinner .....it is more than 60yrs old. Great blade...I sanded down and super glued a finish on the leather handle...then put a shaving sharp edge on it with my KME system...you'll love the Marbles...

Marbles knives have value to collectors so you made out good. The company is no longer in business. Actually anything made by the old Marbles co has a lot of collector value.

Google Marbles fixed blade damascus.
Made in Pakistan, but worth a look.

I have a Marbles fixed blade, given to me on my 10th birthday. That was 53 years ago. Great knife and still use it.

I think, IMHO, that was Marbles downfall. They had two grades of knives. Those made in Michigan and others made overseas. Now they are closed. Another issue is knife makers who used to work for marbles opened up there own shop. Old made in Michigan Marbles are worth a few bucks.
Marbles made a few other things also, match holders and compasses.

Well the box on the Marble's is marked Pakistan but I will give it the benefit of the doubt as I have had some "paki" pocket knives that held up to real abuse quite well. Of course some of them had blades you could replace with wrappers from chewing gum and have a better edge.
The Marttiini sharpened very well. Wonder how the "Skandi grind" will work out.
My main knife will remain my Bob Crowder custom. Master knifesmith from Thompson Falls, MT. Even the thought of of abusing it I would need a chill pill.

I have an old pistol that The Marble Axe Co. made. It's a long barreled over/under pistol. .44 and .22
I think it has a wire stock that attaches to it but I've never seen it.

Todd,
Do a search on the Marbles Folding Gamemaster I believe they were called. First introduced over 100 years ago. Buddy of mine has a couple of them. Worth quite a bit if I'm not mistaken.

My kind of shopping trip - looking for a lawn mower, come home with a couple of knives. Keep your head up and you might find a bow!
