Thanks for the compliments guys.  To me..."they are good from a far, but far from a good", but that just gives me a place for improvement.  That's the fun part of having a hobby.

While I was building these, I had the bright idea of using beet juice to stain some scrap pieces, and it was far from what I was hoping to achieve.  I was hoping for a deep maroon/dark purple (you know, beet looking color) but it came out more pink.  Back to the drawing board.  I have a few more household things I want to try to get the color I'm desiring, and will try them out soon.

Mike I had some left over Rit dye bath from doing feathers. I poured it into a PVC tube with on end caped, and just sat a half dozen shafts in it for about 1/2 hour and was surprised how the color took to the wood, and still left some grain to see.You can get Rit in purple and maroon.

Mike, dying DF is a challenge. The natural color of the wood influences how it comes out. I find I have to go heavy on the stain and then steel wool it to bring out the grain.
