Almost....
« on: May 04, 2012, 03:48:00 PM »
Went on a Kayaking trip yesterday on the Altamaha River. I put in at Stanfield Landing located on Big Hammock WMA here not far from home.Long story short..yesterday was a learning trip with the Kayak to get some confidence and experience with it. I loved it and will be Kayaking a lot in the future Lord Willing. BUT while driving in to the landing I saw a good bit of pig sign. Big Hammock is where I killed my very first wild pig so it is a special place for me.
This morning I left the Yak home and grabbed the Mohawk. I was parked and ready right after daylight with plans of a half day hunt ...

Kinda sweet to park right beside a wallow.
I headed toward a Lake my Wife and I have caught a lot of Black Crappie from..Bigguns. I got to it with no pork sightings but lots of pork sign....

 A pic of Shade Lake..

I walked on up to the edge to have a look and there was a huge Lake Lizard afloat...

If you have been watching Swamp People on TV you would know that JR. would be throwing his treble hook at those bubbles...

I went on down the lake and spotted another maybe 10-12 ft. long. I tried to zoom up some but its a poor pic. That blob in the middle is a big gator afloat..

Headed through the swamp toward the River. ..

Went maybe a half mile and jumped a big boar out of a cane thicket about the size of a truck. He knew the game and did not stick around. I traveled on and got in a whole bunch of fresh sign. Stopped for a snack of Mulberries...

I spotted a pig in a bottom and eased forward. The wind was every direction and the leaves dry. For some reason I have wanted to take pics of pigs so I got a fast pic and then headed on. Got to around 35 yards and the pig turned into 4 sows a big boar and about a dozen shoats. The wind swirled and pigs ran. One hesitated and big Simmons passed inches under its chest. A good morning anyway.

Look close and you can see the black hog...

RC,

You've already died and gone to Heaven. Keep these stories up. I like seeing Paradise through your lens and stories.
