Cinco de Mayo...Michigan Longbow "Style"
« on: May 05, 2012, 10:55:00 PM »
When the Michigan Longbow Association gets together, there is ALWAYS a great time had.  I won't even get into the Chili Cookoff contest(That Steve O's son, Daniel, won for the 2nd year in a row with some awesome Michigan Black Bear chili), or the unlimited shooting courses (Rinehart 3D course, "Zombie" broadhead course and stump shooting course), the pot luck dinner to beat all others I have EVER attended, or even the door prize table with custom made arrows, Shrade knives, shirts, quivers, jewlery, golf balls, tons of archery related items ect..., nope, I'll jump right over all that FREE stuff we have from the members, for  the members, and get right to the point.

When we get together, we ALWAYS have some fun shoots.  Well, since it's the 5th of May, why not get a pinata, about 15 dozen flu flu's, then gather all the kids in attendance and add a Michigan Longbow Association twist to the adventure?

We do what we can to make sure the kids have a great time, for they are our future...

Laughing out loud at that one with all the arrows in it!
What a great time for the kids!
Whoops... Woke the husband.    :scared:

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

On the other end of the field a bunch of us were 'trying' to shoot an American Round, but we couldn't help being distracted by watching the kids create their pin-cusion, followed by them running around gleefully with handfulls of candy from their kill.  What a fun day!

That is such a cool photo! The kids having fun, and I know the adults were having a blast also. Mike, I think that picture right there says a lot about your organization and how to bring the kids into trad archery. Congratulations MLA!          :campfire:

I absolutly love that. You all are doing a wonderful thing for families and those children.  If you don't mind I would like to save those piñata picks to show to out club.

I am heading over to Land-O-Lakes shortly to help take down the targets our good friends at the MLA were enjoying.

Here is a photo of the two time Chili Champion and his spoils.

Daniel has come a long way.  We still love to make the chili as a father son thing, but it is completely opposite now of how we started.  Now  HE makes the chili and I stand by for moral support.  All I can do now is supply the meat...he used some of my bear burger this year. Very, very soon, I will be even prouder (if that is possible) and his animals will be the centerpiece of his chili excellence

Here is a shot of Daniel getting ready to serve one of his friends at our first chili contest.

We only do them at the archery shoots we attend and it is a lot of fun to combine the things we love and do them together.

Just looking at that photo amazes me how much he has grown in size and stature in seven years (now 13 and pulled and held at anchor a 71# GN Super Ghost at our turkey hunting buddy's place yesterday morning    ).  Winning is fun for him, but he has had his share of losses as well and it teaches good sportsmanship.  Interacting with all the judges, other contestants, and the crowd is a very good opportunity to grow in character as well.

Thanks MLA and all the good people of traditional archery...it is so comforting knowing your kids are safe to be kids in any big shoot or expo we go to.  You all have taught him a lot

I stand corrected...that picture was only the first PHOTO we have at an archery chili event.  He informed me he started helping me a couple years earlier when he was four   :biglaugh:
