First turkey and killed with the blade
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:09:00 AM »
Headed out at 4:30 nice moon. Had meat by 6:30. I have to run to my meeting so short on time now. I'll post the story on the NY turkey thread later. I think next time I'll bring the camera in the field instead of waiting till I get home. Have to think more positive. Later all
Good luck

Looks like a nice bird. Looking forward to the story. You are right about the camera. There's a lot more I could share on some days if I had just remembered to bring it along.

Thanks guys. Vince gets credit on the bow I made the arrows sure woods natural  turkey shield cut fetching from some friends birds last year. I like the natural look but they are more difficult to find when released into the wild.

Well left the house by 4:30 was set up by 5 and the sun was anxious coming up. Started yelping about 10 after and soon had three suitors already to ask me to the prom. We were trading compliments back and forth with them getting closer. ( I had a road between me and them ) and they were coming in from my back which was good they would have to pass me before getting to the decoys. Anyway after enjoying the compliments I was getting our date was interrupted by the ring of a single shotgun blast. Talk about disappointed. ( there a some less than considerate folks whole won't stay off our property who got between us and cut in on our dance.) well as disappointed as I was I stayed put not knowing which way everyone had scattered. After about 5 min. I sent out a couple yelps and a coo and after about half an hour Mr. Much more quiet but just as interested shows up and had to get 15 yards from my blind before he could size up my decoy. I was always told it wasn't fair shooting someone in the back but I can say I feel no remorse.    :biglaugh:   . He wasn't a big bird only a 4 in beard but he was defiantly earned.

Way to go! Nice trophy for sure. It is a good thing they can't smell or we'd never be able to shoot them!    :clapper:
