Anybody else with bullsnake on their bow?
« on: May 10, 2012, 10:27:00 PM »
Almost stepped on it, was straddling it before I got stopped, was really happy when I figured what kind it was! No RATTLES!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

Me too! Was kind of surprised to find him that high of altitude, about 7k. Supposed to be snowing up there next couple of nights. Hope he finds a warm spot to hold up.

I put bull snake on a bow quiver. Wow! it really looks good. I'm having trouble with photobucket right now so photos are out of the question.

Love bullsnakes...great looking animal. Big ones like that are so docile. Nothing drives me crazier than people killing them out of ignorance.
Show me your ways, LORD,teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me,for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Docile? I raised snakes for years, often having 75-100 at one time and I found that they are one of the most aggresive snakes I had.

Bull snake makes pretty bow backing on osage selfbows.
My wife hates it when I stop and inspect road kill. She hates it even more when I bring it home.   :)

Heh, funny guy Rich.
John, yes, all bulls. They have a changing pattern from head to tail. The head starts off with mostly black, then changes past the neck to browns, and even hints of orange, then back to a solid black striping at the tail. The general body background is light tannish/yellow. It takes on the color of the wood beneath it, so you can bring out it's colors by using lighter woods. Going over black glass makes it very dark.
And every bullsnake is different, like anything in nature.

I took care of my friend's collection while he was on vacation. My wife came to help me feed them one day(he had about 120 at the time). Very first tub I opened was a big Bullsnake. He reared up and hissed that deep low hiss, would have made a King Cobra proud!!! My wife took off out of the room like a shot.Needless to say I fed them all myself.
Nice skins on all the bows in the pics here, but for me the ones on that 1st osage selfbow are gorgeous.

Goshawkin, I agree. Almost any snake over osage is tough to beat. Yew is another great one. And there sure is nothing like a "snakey" self bow backed with skins....good stuff!
