tape for rests and sideplates
« on: May 12, 2012, 09:13:00 AM »
Is there a double side tape that can be used to install rests and sideplates on bows?  I tried double sided carpet tape and doesn't seem to hold.  I really don't care to use glues.

Jon,

Answered you over on the other site but Michaels carries Therm O Web Peel N Stick that works great for rest and strike plates.

I have used some from the hardware store that was said to be rated for exterior use, never had a problem.

3M double backed tape works well, have used it for years. You should be able to get it at any hardware store or Wally world

As for glue, Barge worked well for years..peels up with a bit of effort and Goo Gone takes off residue with hurting the finish!

I second elkken's suggestion.  I used some 3m stuff little while back. Still working great.  Gotta watch though cause its kinda thick and may change the tune on your bow.

Carpet tape here. Never a problem.

Many bows are coming with Velcro for both rest and plate the self adhesive on it appears strong perhaps someone here could give an asessment. Not sure on tape only. I've used the Bear Hair stick on combo (plate & rest) from Bass Pro on occasion with great results.

Yeah I would also recommend Barge Cement. Never know when those tapes may harm your finish.

double sided carpet tape, fiber type, you can even use the tape to fine tune, build out the sideplate by adding one peice at a time, also you can remove it and reinstall by slowly peeling back the rest, leaves no residue, best way to install sideplates and rests, this is how Rick Welch teaches his students. One roll will last you and your freinds a lifetime

I use a double sided carpet tape that I get from a local carpet company.  It has an aggressive adhesive that stick well.  Works for me.

I found some two sided tape at the auto parts store that I put on all my stick-on rest. It's a body side moulding tape and comes in 1/2" or 1" wideth and a 3 foot roll.It last for years and won't harm finish and is super thin.
