LETS SEE 'EM
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:13:00 PM »
Just wondering how many of you hunt or have hunted with a horsebow or any type of mongolian, turkish, scythian, or roman recurve bows. Was contemplating one as my next bow but wasnt sure if it'd be a hunter or not. Lets see some pics of game taken with these bows if there are any.
Now then, get your weapons, your quiver and your bow and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.- Genesis 27:3

Oh, you opened a good thread here. I am a Mongolian, Horsebow, Scynthian  bow addict.

I'm excited to follow this thread as well.  I don't currently own any of these bows, but being a history nut I'm looking forward to trying some of these very interesting bows.

the architecture and beauty is second to none, surely there is someone out there hunting with them.

Glad I opened this one too Matt.  I have not hunted one, but I shot one last year at an archery event, and I think my arm is still shaking.  Granted, it wasn't the top of the line, but I had absolutely no desire to shoot a 2nd arrow.

Do all of them have that much "recoil" (for lack of a better term)?   I really like the look and the shortness of them, just wondering what your experiences are with them.

wow! what a beaut! I'm also intersted, how's the hand shock? and does it affect accuracy quite a bit?

Always loved these bows since Ulysses *Kirk Douglas" skint Penelope's suitors in the Odyssey. Unfair speed!

I can vouch for the performance of Matt's Harrison bows.  I don't think I've ever heard him say anything about handshock, and I've watched that bow being shot quite a bit, can't see anything but a bow that truly sends arrows down range with authority.  Extremely nice craftsmanship as well.

Well, that Attilla would rattle my teeth. But, the Harrison and the Saluki, no way. Harrison and Novotny are two of the world's finest bowyers. You pay $ for that kind of quality and uber speed.

No hand shock with those bows.

58" on the Saluki's and 60" on the Harrison.

Matt

As for what Rob Green said, my Harrison Siberian will fling an arrow something fierce.

Rob, have I shot the Saluki Ibex with you?

Only had it for one season.  This is my "I cant believe I sold it" bow.

I'd likely trade for one at any given time it was offered.  My dad, who is a wheelie guy all the way, said that this was the one bow that made him contemplate going to a curve.
