Got a NM Shelton--What a Bow!!
« on: May 25, 2012, 07:11:00 PM »
I got this sweet Shelton yesterday. She's my first string-follow and to say I'm impressed would be a serious understatement!

I got a chance at this essentially new Shelton and after reading so many positive comments on them I couldn't resist. She draws 51@27 (about 53 at my draw) and is 68". The American Elm veneers are stunning, 4 lams in the core. Outstanding craftsmanship in every way.

I love how she feels in hand and what a shooter! I grabbed some woodies, Surewoods (55-60) and Quillian Suoercedars (50-55) and she seems to like both, but the Supercedars fly a tad better.

She is so smooth and feels a good 5 pounds lighter. Can't feel any shock either.

What do you Shelton shooters find is a good Brace-height?

Absolutly gorgeous bow. Was it in the classifieds? If so I didn't see it or else we would have had a dual at the O.K. Corral LOL. I do want one for my stable.  I have the superior and the Huron and both are wonderful shooters.

Thanks! Got it off the auction site. Seller preferred his recurves and only shot a few arrows in the backyard. I doubt it would have lasted too long on TG's classifieds.

I'll surely be looking at another Northern Mist, I'm very impressed with Steve's work. I hope he's at Denton and has plenty of stock bows with him.

This is also my first bow with no overlay on the tips, very cool!

Nice bow Danny, they are real sweet shooters, I have a couple myself.

FWIW, those arent veneers, its American Elm through the whole limb. Steve harvests it and has it sawn for his stock. He realy knows the wood and it makes an excellent limb. I like it better than Boo.

Eric, thanks for the info on the limbs, that Elm is an awesome limb wood, looks and performance to match!

What brace height do you find works for you? I haven't had time to really tune her yet, but she shot well enough at 6 1/4" to get a feel for her.

Brian, 'Bow Envy' is not only o.k., it's promoted. That's how we keep all the fine Bowyers we are blessed with in business!    :bigsmyl:

If you have pics of your Superior and Huron handy please post them in this thread. It'll help me start deciding on my next NM.

Danny, I've got a Huron and Shelton-great bows, both.

Brian, Depends on whose bow you're envying!!

Danny, these are some of my Superior. Its Steves Mild R/D that braces up D. This one has a slight locator grip
