moulting season has just started here in the nor'east. plenty of excellent canada goose feathers ripe for the taking. they make superb, water resistant fletches.
here's what i just picked up on this morning's walk around the pond ...
... with just a little bit of effort and tooling, fine fletchings emerge, from the more primitive ...
... to the more "modern" ...
... here's how it's done ...
making canada goose fletchings

They make nice fletching. I kept a bunch off of the ones we killed last winter. I am footing a dozen arrows now that will be fletched with goose feathers.

the downside of canada goose feathers is they can't be seen in flight or if they decide to hide somewhere in the bush. at least partially solved with faux rabbit fur tracers ...

Make great feather rests too! Been using goose feathers for that purpose for a couple years and they hold up much better in the rain than turkey.
