LB / Recurve Comparison
« on: August 01, 2007, 04:04:00 PM »
I can't help it, guys, I'm a reloader.  Tweaking loads and testing results is what I do.  Now that the arhery bug has pricked me that same fasination to "know what it will do" has crossed over to this sport with me.  That said I just had to know the difference between the Martin Pioneer LB of 50 pounds and the Dad's old Herters recurve of 44 pounds.  Using the same arrows, GT 35/55's, I shot them through the chrony at about 18".
Needless to say I was got to see that both bows were nearly identical in velocity.  The LB had maybe 2-3 fps on the recurve over all at 174 fps than the recurve's 172fps on average.  I knew from my study that the efficiency of limb design makes a big difference but for 6 lbs in draw weight to make no difference in arrow speed was an eye opener for me.
Thought I would share.

The recurve showed a great difference, knock the longbow down to 44#s and it would be a lot slower than 172fps. more like in the 150s. Shawn

Did you weigh the draw on each with the same scale?  Just checking, because they both could be off.  Thanks for the post.
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!
