2114's...Jack Howard was right!

Years (read that as over a decade) ago, Jack Howard told me the best all around arrow was the Easton 2114. Now, most of you know that I'm a dyed-in-the-wool woodie guy. However, yesterday I was messing around and found some 2114 AO that had been secreted back in the nether reaches of the arrow vault. Now these had been weighted with foam and with 145gr points they all weighed in at 540gr. I wondered, "How would my 55# Tembo like these?" So, I tried them.

I bought an older Bear Kodiak a few years ago and the seller bragged on the 2114's as the best arrow for it...and he was right.

I've used them for numerous bows in the 45-55# range.

Can't tell you how many deer I killed with Easton 2114s.  Thanks for the reminder....been shooting carbon n wood for over a decade now, and you just revived some memories.

If I didn't like my 2212 so much, I'd be shooting a 2114 out of my 42# recurve.

Lon - You are right. All I have left in 2114's are the AO. Need to find some more......

Blain - Foam weighted: Before I install the insert, I use the rubberized foam from pc packaging. Not the old hard white Styrofoam, but the flexible foam. Most pieces I have are about 4" thick. I then use a sharp knife and cut it into 1/4" X 1/4" X 4" pieces and then pack it into the arrow shaft and tamp it down with small diameter rod. You can fill the shaft with the foam and usually add about 40 to 50 grains of weight plus it deadens the hollow sound of the empty shaft. Using a digital scale, you can actually match the exact grain weight for each shaft. Heavier matched weight, flat dead sound and it does not change the spine. Much better than weed eater line or other weight adding items. Hope this helps.

Festivus - They work well with a variety of bows (recurve and longbows) and draw weights. I've shot them with great success from 45# up to 65# bows.

The actual spine of a 2114 is 64#, according to a chart I have.

As Ric said, they work in a wide range of bows, but one must test them to make sure.  

I have a 45# Kodiak recurve that loves them, but then a 50# recurve that shows the arrow is too stiff.

You can't always depend on the spine charts to give you actual performance data. You really need to shoot a 2114 out of a bow. It has been my experience that, more often than not, spine charts cause frustration in tuning a bow.

Agreed. That is the actual spine of the shaft, measured on a spine tester, like you would spine a wooden shaft. You may have to tinker with it to get it to fly from your bow.

I've never used a 2114 but used a 2016 out of many bows with the same kind of success.

What's the 2114 GPI?  I've been working with some 2016's for a couple of RER recurves, 49-51#.  The 49# loves the 2016 with 125 up front, but the 51# shows way weak.  I'd like to find an aluminum I can put 175 up front, and while I can make 2117's work, it feels like I'm launching a telephone pole.

Despite all of the above, I would like to say that 2114 shafts are outdated. They bend when you hit rocks or other hard objects; Are not nearly as durable as carbon shafts; cannot make up their mind which weight bow they prefer(45 to 60 at 28"); and are no longer being manufactured by Easton. Anyone with 2114 shafts, at least 29" long, should contact me immediately. I will gladly take them off your hands and make sure that they are no longer in circulation.
