I have really became interested in picking up a set of wood arrows form my Widow longbow. I am turning to you guys for help since I have shot alumnium shafts my entire life.

The bow is a Widow Longbow 58 @ 28, I draw to 30.5" I like to have the arrows around 32" or so. After looking around it seems most ready-made woodies are too short. Can anyone suggest a sponsor to talk to or a spine range for this bow?

Hilldebrant. Not sure if they are a sponsor but a lot of the shaft suppliers buy Sitka spruce shafts from them. Pretty sure they can get you some that are 32 inches. I'm positive they can get you some that are 31 inches. I just got a batch of tapered Sitka spruce that are flying perfectly out of my habu vyperkhan which is around 54 pounds at my 28.5 inch draw length. They are spined 70/74 and cut to 29 inches with a 125 grain point. You will need a heavier spine for your bow especially if you want to keep them that long. I like Sitka spruce the best for their toughness lighter weight and speed/flat trajectory.

Hi Ray,
We could fix you up with some that would be 31.5" bop??? Shafts are normally cut to 32".

Get them footed if you need longer.

Snag, I am definitely interested. Let me measure my alumnium shafts tonight. I am pretty sure the set I have is 32". A set cut to 31.5" would most likely work but I would not be able to adjust length for tuning proposes.

Mike as far as footed shafts, can I buy footed shafts anywhere, or is this a DIY?

There's a product called "Reparrow" that you can use to easily and relatively cheaply add 3" to your arrow shaft. They are wood, and a lot cheaper than conventional footings.

My arrows arrived from Wilderness Custom last week, and I'm in hog heaven!

32" shouldn't be a problem, they make trees taller than that....

I think you'll find wood more forgiving than aluminum. You can get a bareshaft test kit at 31.5" with the point weight you like. Shoot the kit, find the spine that works best and roll with it. No need to adjust length. The 5# spine increments of woodies make them a snap to tune if you get a test kit.

Try our western larch. tuesday the 19th we will have more made. They are stronger than douglas fir.

Surewood sells them. I believe Wilderness Custom Arrows also sells them. With wood, you should get a test kit in the same type of wood you're planning on shooting. Some woods have similar dynamic spine while others are very different (i.e. spruce vs. ash).
