I am in the middle of making some surewoods with a wenge footing now.  I just got the footing glued up.  They are going to look very similar to Bjorn's except they are going to have a grey goose cock feather and yellow hen feathers.  I really like wenge for footing.

Bjorn, very nice     always wondered, especially with a longer footing, did those tune up the same a  non-footed shaft of the same spine.  Rear tapered to 5/16"??

How does the footing affect spine? Do you measure it any differently?

Here are some Douglas Fir footed with Bubinga. I wanted them to match the bubinga in my DreamCatcher's riser    ;)

These shafts are also rear tapered. The footing does require a heavier spined arrow.

Westbrook asked "did those tune up the same a non-footed shaft of the same spine. Rear tapered to 5/16"??"
With that much heavy wood upfront I should have picked shafting 10# stiffer. The footing is 7" long and another 5" for the splice I was trying for more FOC and shouldn't have bothered-pretty though   :bigsmyl:

I footed these poplar arrows with walnut after I broke these three.  The footing is really longer than I would prefer, but most of these broke or split requiring this length of footing.  And yes, this length footing does change the spine.  With one arrow in particular, I went from a 125 grain point to a 190 grain......still doesn't shoot well.

The flu-flu with the Ace Hex head is terrific for stump shooting......really tough combination.  I might make up some more of these......before I break them.

You are removing 70 gns of POC and replacing it with 140 gns of PH or Wenge etc; but it is not all up front......generally it shows up bareshafting but not when the feathers are on.  So it is a maybe!
