I quickly maneuvered so the the large clump of Johnson grass was between me and both hogs and I crept up to the clump grass. The hog is moving out from behind the clump at about 10 yards, I slowly lift up my bow and the joker gets a little spooked by the movement and turns and heads the other way
I thought it was over! He stops and can't see me through the grass and starts feeding again, he turns quartering hard to my right, I hit full draw and he takes 3 quick steps and stops perfectly broadside! I release and the arrow looks like it flys right under his chest behind his front leg. He spins and takes off, no squeal no grunt, my arrow did not even flicker and I see it sticking in the ground. My first thought "you missed him you knucklehead!" He ran about 30 yards where the other hog was and stoped and looked back to see what happened! I nocked another arrow cause it looked like they were going to feed back out into the field and then they took off. I am mad and shaking my head
I motioned for my friend to come over. He could not see the hog but was watching me through the bino's. I told him that I just shot under the big hog at 15 yards! We walked over to the arrow and one of the fletchings is gone and it is covered with blood! I am really confused now. All I can figure is that I shot through the brisket or the leg. While we're discussing it, you could see blood sprayed on the ground and you could hear a hog grunting about 50 yards away were they went into the weeds that surrounded the field.
We decided to back out for an hour and then come back to see if we could find him. My friend kept saying that the way the blood looks that he felt the hog was dead but I kept playing the shot back in my mind and I just knew I had shot to low or had hit the leg.
We relaxed for an hour (yea right!) so now it's 10 pm and time to go check it out. There was blood everywhere! I could not believe it. 20 yards from where I had last seen the hog SHE was down! She only went 50 yards and was down. She was dead before we ever walked out of the field the first time and evidently the other sow was grunting at her trying to get her to leave!
This is the best shot placement you could ever have on a miss!!!!
Here are the pictures.
