I got a call from a friend of mine on Thursday. He said "The hogs are in all my fields and they gotta go, can you come over tomorrow and we'll try to shoot one!" Of course I said yes.

Here is my knife that Jeff made! Jeff asked me what kind of wood I wanted for the handle, I said I'm gonna use it so what ever you think. This is what he came up with. Palm tree for the handle! Man! Is that cool or what!!! (Now I have to get Bill to make me some limbs for my Zipper with flat cut Palm Tree Lams   :bigsmyl:   )

I'm sorry to do this to Ya"ll    :bigsmyl:   but I have to go cut the grass!

One little tease....

I had to come in for some water...

I forgot to mention that the State tree for SC is the Palm Tree, thats why Jeff picked it.

I have gotten some of Bill's new grizzlys and I figured this to be a good chance to try one out. I had been shooting one to see how it would fly and it was hitting in the same holes as my VPAs. I sharpened it up in a few minutes and put it in my quiver, I also "touched up" my VPA's incase I had multiple shots.

We located a couple hogs in one of the fields with about 45 minutes before dark...The stalk is on   :bigsmyl:

Back to the grass, I'm getting "The Eye" from my wife!!!!

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

I would have been here 4:04 ago but I had to watch a youtube clip of some guy cutting grass, thanks arrow30      :saywhat:

So, it looks like an even 3 hours to cut the grass..

Now a little more of the story until the sweet little "ball and chain" figures out something else for me to do.

John C, I read the rest of your post and I see that you did get my text      :D

Thanks for the compliments on the knife, not only does it look good it holds an awesome edge! Jeff knows his stuff! I skinned and field dressed the whole hog without even touching it up! Anyone that has messed with a hog knows that says alot!

Nope, I didn't cut my finger either    :banghead:    I just stuck it in the ground and pulled out another arrow, this time being a little more careful, I nocked it....

Oh no! Here she comes with a list of stuff for me to do!!!! "I'll be back" in a little bit.    :D

Pictures will be up next!

I quickly maneuvered so the the large clump of Johnson grass was between me and both hogs and I crept up to the clump grass. The hog is moving out from behind the clump at about 10 yards, I slowly lift up my bow and the joker gets a little spooked by the movement and turns and heads the other way    :banghead:    I thought it was over! He stops and can't see me through the grass and starts feeding again, he turns quartering hard to my right, I hit full draw and he takes 3 quick steps and stops perfectly broadside! I release and the arrow looks like it flys right under his chest behind his front leg. He spins and takes off, no squeal no grunt, my arrow did not even flicker and I see it sticking in the ground. My first thought "you missed him you knucklehead!" He ran about 30 yards where the other hog was and stoped and looked back to see what happened! I nocked another arrow cause it looked like they were going to feed back out into the field and then they took off. I am mad and shaking my head     :banghead:    I motioned for my friend to come over. He could not see the hog but was watching me through the bino's. I told him that I just shot under the big hog at 15 yards! We walked over to the arrow and one of the fletchings is gone and it is covered with blood! I am really confused now. All I can figure is that I shot through the brisket or the leg. While we're discussing it, you could see blood sprayed on the ground and you could hear a hog grunting about 50 yards away were they went into the weeds that surrounded the field.

We decided to back out for an hour and then come back to see if we could find him. My friend kept saying that the way the blood looks that he felt the hog was dead but I kept playing the shot back in my mind and I just knew I had shot to low or had hit the leg.

We relaxed for an hour (yea right!) so now it's 10 pm and time to go check it out. There was blood everywhere! I could not believe it. 20 yards from where I had last seen the hog SHE was down! She only went 50 yards and was down. She was dead before we ever walked out of the field the first time and evidently the other sow was grunting at her trying to get her to leave!

This is the best shot placement you could ever have on a miss!!!!

Here are the pictures.
