Archery Gals
« on: June 20, 2012, 09:17:00 AM »
I've tried and tried to get my 13 yo daughter interested in archery. Please post picts of your gals shooting or hunting. Hero shots would be great as well for some inspiration. Also if you have a bow a 13 yo would be able to shoot let me know. I'm in the market. Its hard for me to get her to shoot a bow that is for an 8 year old.

Thanks TJ

Good stuff Tim, I showed my daughter your thread with Amy an Big Ed the other day and she said "Eeuuuu I wouldnt shoot one of those nasty carp".

I think her hunting anything is a lost cause, but I still think she will shoot targets with me if I can find her a bow.

Tom,

My daughter's interest comes and goes.  Out of the blue last summer on her 14th birthday she decided to take the hunter safety course.  A couple months later she pulled the trigger on her first doe at 18 yards!  She is definitely not ready to archery hunt but that's fine with me, as long as she's in the woods for the right reasons I'm proud to have her along.

This summer for some reason she's back into bows! She's not one to go out back and practice but so far she has yet to miss a 3d shoot! We'll see how it all plays out....Tim

Awesome, sounds just like the interest level I am seeing. She is 13 now and hopefully it will blossom when she is tired of music and boys.

Keefer, those are great. My daughter at that age shot quit a bit with me. Hopefully they will stick with it.

TJ - Have you taken your daughter to see the movie, "The Hunger Games"?

This movie seems to be the recent driving force for the multitude of young ladies invading every local archery shop and relieving them of every available lightweight recurve or longbow!  I've talked with shops that tell me their distributers can't keep up with the demand.

Just a thought.

I think that new movie Brave is gonna draw some interest as well with the younger girls! My Daughter (who is 5) picked up her old bow out of the blue and started shooting with me on fathers day! We shot for over an hour together! I ended up picking her up a pink st.joe's river kid bow from the footed shaft yesterday. We shot for about 20 minutes last night together! Here is a pic of her and her new bow!

Tony, she read the three books multiple times prior to dragging me to the initial midnight showing of the movie. She loved it all. I know she will shoot with me if I will get off my butt and get her a bow. The one she has is the one she started with and is way to light now.
