Just finished these....splicin' nice
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:35:00 AM »

A guy in our trad. archery club talked me into making these up for his trip to NALS. I told him these are nicer than the arrows I shoot! I put a 10" back taper on them and used a red oak stain for the crown.
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Those are pretty! Butt spliced?
Sorry. Didn't mean to get personal.   :o

I think they're membrane spliced.
If my old eyes don't deceive me, I see some bar dye on the bases under the white.

Very good looking arrows Snag.

Wish I had that talent to splice like that, one day.

Beautiful work sir.

Outstanding arrows.  I just might have to go back to wood.  It has only been 45 years.

Thanks, sure wish it didn't take so long to splice feathers. I love the way they look. Just don't have the time to do a lot of it.
I do the membrane splicing. Just never liked the results of the butt splicing.

I agree with you Snag.

A good membrane splice just plain looks better than a good butt splice.

Nice looking job on those!

Nice....I would be afraid to shoot 'em......but they are nice!

Those are stunning!  What is a membrane splice?  I've only done butt splices.

I've only done membrane splices. Doing some now, but was hoping that maybe butt splices could look as good as those shown here. Back to sanding quill...
