My daughter saw the pic and asked if they were in the river or big lakes. I told her yes and she said she wasn't swimming in there any more.

Back in the 1960's my brother and I were floating the Pearl River below the Barnett Reservoir in Jackson, Mississippi on an afternoon fishing trip.  I was chugging a Burke Flex plug on a retrieve and my line just stopped.   I kept the pressure up, pulling for all I was worth and as I watched a monster of a gar simply and quietly sounded from the deep with my plug in his mouth and his eye on us in that boat.  We were in a 12' john boat and neither of us could believe what we had just witnessed.   He released the plug and sank back into the dark water.   He was at least 10' long, possibly longer and we still talk about that.

He told in the story the line was wraped around his feet.He grab it with his hand, the fish pulled the line tight and yanked him into the lake. His dog grab him by his pant cuff trying to pull him back in.

Wasn't that in the Corpus Christie River?  I saw that today and couldn't believe my eyes.  I have known for a while that those BRUTES get GIANT sized down here, but I didn't know they would get that big.
I would love to tangle with one of those monsters with a bow and also with a fishing pole.  I've never read or heard of a rig on a fishing pole that you can successfully fish for them though.

Just seeing something like that would cause you to take a deep breath.

Many years ago while duck hunting in the Escambia River Swamp area near Pensacola, Florida, I paddled the little 14 foot canoe over to a duck that I had just shot that was still flopping a little.  As I just started to reach for it, the water roiled and a huge gar close to the size of this one snapped my duck up and had it for breakfast.  It scared the heck out of me and made my little canoe feel puny.

A co worker told me about it today after seeing my Carp picture.  She said Prehistoric fish.

I said Alligator Gar, she disagreed with me so I had to look it up.  I smiled when I brought up the picture, not only was I right, but the guy was toting a recurve and a skoal can in the front pocket!

I thought his story is one for the books!

Good stuff for sure!
Relax,
