Putting on snakeskins
« on: June 24, 2012, 05:09:00 PM »
I am getting ready to start the process of applying the snakeskins I got from Yornoc on the St Jude's auction and want to ask. Is it better to glue them on in my iar conditioned basement or outside in the shed where it is about 90 degrees. How will it affect the glue setting and drying either way?

Hey Daniel, You might ask over on Bowyers Bench if you don't find out what you need here.

I'm gonna put some on a bow with some flaws  under the glass on the back after I shoot it a bit to see if the probs grow....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

i put some on about 2 wks ago in my shop it was warm prob closer too 85 that day. i personally dnt think the temp will matter. but if its 90 in your shop the AC in the basement sure sounds nice.

If your using Elmers wood glue per Sneaky Pete instructions ,I think i'd do it where it's cooler to allow more working time..IMO

put them on in 90* heat in south carolina....made no difference...let them dry in air conditioner to speed it up as in the high humidity it slows the drying time down.

I'd go with air.  One big drop of sweat on the back of the bow or skin could be a problem.  Besides your favorite beverage doesn't warm up so quickly.

It won't matter what the temp outside is as long as the glue is not drying up before you have time to get the skins on. I like to soak my skins in water and then use tite bond III glue to put them on. Then I use a round file to clean the extra skin on the side of the limbs after the glue is good and dry.
