The barrel target by Viper
« on: June 25, 2012, 11:51:00 PM »
I recently picked up a new target, the barrel by Viper. It is a round target, that is about 18" in diameter, so it at first was kind of weird to shoot at, but seems to work well. My impressions about it are they is is pretty good. I am shooting a Martin Stick at it, 45@28" so not a powerhouse bow, but I have never had anything more then about 4" of penetration on the target. If/when you wear it out, you can turn it about 20 degrees and have pretty much a new surface. It is supposed to be good for field point and broadheads, but I have not shot any broadheads into it. I bought it off the auction sight for under $50 shipped, so if I could find another at the price I would buy another. I did not find to many reviews on it, but I wanted to let people know my experience with it.

We used to have one of those at the local Gander Mountain indoor range. It was always shot with field points only, as those were the rules of the range. It was shot mostly with compounds and stopped 'em all dead. I would imagine with "trad" equipment it would last a long time.

A question was asked of me on another site, and I thought that I would answer it here too. It was asked if since the target was round if hitting near the edges if the arrows would bounce off, my reply is that I have never had this happen, so I can not say for sure. I have gotten close to the edge and it has always stopped the arrow clean.

Thanks, I have just gotten back into shooting after about a 1 away, so it has been fun. My 5 year old son is shooting with me every night in the 95 degree heat.

Is it shrink wrap over some kind of layers of stacked material?

I have not had it open, but what I think is: it is foam material wrapped around itself till it is 18" in diameter, and then a thick shrinkwrap material on the outside.
