Question on elk arrows?

I know there are topics on this in the archives but needed some fresh info.

I'm in the process of figurin' out which arrow I will be using for elk. So far I'm needing WAY stiffer shafts then I've used in the past. The problem with this is that I've reduced point weight to stiffen up the arrow so much that the total arrow weight is too light.

The best 2 combo's I have is a 540 grain beaman (400) with 200 up front plus insert. The next is a FMJ 340 coming in at 700 grains. These are old arrows so I'm thinking they have 100 grain inserts. If so, there is a total of 350 grains up front.

I'm a stickler for arrow flight and will shoot nothing less than perfect flying arrows.

What I'm looking for is results guys have had with similar weight arrows on elk or say moose. Not really intersted in results on deer or bears.

If it matters I'm shooting a #57 Tall Tines r/c that's 62"s long. On a good day I pull it to about #55. Thanks!......Ryan

my elk (and for the most part everything else arrows) weigh 640 and have roughly 250 up front.  had no problems with em, bet yours are fine.

I killed my elk and moose with arrows weighing 500 grains (plus or minus a couple grains) and 125-grain heads with 20-grain inserts. Fred Eichler's killed just about all of him big game with 495-grain arrows. They're more than up to the task, EFOC or not.

I shoot FMJ 400s with 225 up front. They have not failed my on an elk yet. Your in the ball park. If the fly they will kill.

Definitely listen to Randy. I can't comment on elk they have my number. I shot my moose with a 680 grain wood out of a #59 longbow. I think you'll be fine with the great arrow flight you strive to get. Good Luck Bud!

You'll be fine.  I've killed several bulls with less.  

That being said, I shoot 81# w 715-815 grain arrows, with 300-400 up front.  Likely 725 ttl this year since I want too shoot 190 tree sharks this time for elk.

I would shoot the 540gr myself I shoot 517gr and have all the confidence in my setup.  Widow

Killed a bull last year with a arrow close to your 540 grain set up. I will shoot the same set up in sept for caribou.

The 540s will be fine.

56# Black Widow PSA2 56@28 I pull 29.5 with an Easton FMJ 400 225 on the nose total arrow weight of 648 grains. Either of your two setups will work just fine.
