Would you paint your custom bow? I've done it and thinking of doing it again. What about you?

The human body is the only machine the harder you work it, the stronger it gets.

I'd be real hesitant...tell us the steps you used to do yours.  :campfire:

Not a chance, no reason to paint a pretty bow.

All of my customs are satin finish.  No need to paint them. Wouldn't hesitate to buff or paint a shiny finish though. Would try to find an easily removable paint though

No not any its the wood that stands out. I cann't even imagine doing a custom this way.

Most of my bows are brown glass back and belly so I never would, no need.

I'd get it dipped for a good durable finish as I'm rubbish at painting!

I've covered fancy bows with limbskins to protect them and keep the shine down. Just the sight window is uncovered, thats usually only if I'm using a high gloss bow though. Otherwise I've never had a problem with deer or game "seeing" my bow.
I love buying old bows that were painted back in the day. Never know whats under that paint, sometimes plain maple, sometimes a big score.
I'd dip a plain bow or metal ILF in a heartbeat, those finishes look incredible.
I've got nothing against a good home camo job either, a bow is a hunting tool so whatever it takes. Paint can always be removed!

I don't think I could bring myself to paint a bow. A little paste wax to knock down the shine or limb skins to cover it up.

I have a Holm-Made River Runner that did the limbs on. I had an old Black Widow painted her up also.I just did a set of ILF limbs also, It's no big deal. Would I paint every bow I have....no, but if you have one that you really want to hunt with and feel comfortable spraying it.....go for it. It don't take much to make it vanish in the woods!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

My bow arrived at camodip today. Cant wait to get it back.

I wax it first the light spry paint for camo.  The wax keeps the paint from sticking to the original surface.  It will go through a hunting season camoed just fine...do it all the time!

You order a custom bow with your wood choice and cover it. I'm sorry I don't get it. I love the look of wood.

I agree with Tippet and I get a lot of satisfaction out of restoring the bow to it's original beauty when season is over.

Charlie,
I remember a Texas Sweat that we went into town so you could get some coarse sandpaper cause you didn't like the shine of your bow  :biglaugh:

Course you made the bow and could refinish it later  ;)  tippit

Be careful. I used one of those easily removable paints back in the 70's, but when I later tried to remove it, I found out it is not so removable after all. That bow still has blothches of paint on it. Since then, I don't paint any of my equipment.
