Hey Gang,
As some of you already know, my wife recently made the transition to hunting with a stickbow. So far, I think the biggest hurdle has been the transition from an effective range out to sixty down to an effective range under twenty. Getting under twenty yards on the ground with a recurve has it's lists of challenges but she's been a real trooper and I couldn't be any more proud of her.
Funny story of how much of a trooper she is -- In Hawaii, we call "polled" rams "pollies" and we call thorns "pokies". While we were stalking on our hands and knees, she turned around to say "pokies", all I heard was "pollies", so I nodded meaning for her to continue. So, she kept crawling. Eventually, we got busted and when she returned, she started to pull these little thorns from her clothes and hands. I asked, "What happened?" she looked at me puzzled and said "I told you there were pokies". "OH!!! I thought you said pollies, so nodded to tell you to go ahead and keep stalking them." OOOPS!!!
Well anyways, she's been on a few traditional bowhunts so far and although we haven't harvested anything yet, they were all very successful in my book.
Here's a quick video of our last sheep hunt together at Hawaii Bowhunting Outfitters. Now I just need her to talk in front of the camera. :D
Aloha!
Ryan
