Well, I've had a rough year. I've been down and out pretty much since January. I havent been able to do much of anything, no bow refinishing or skinning, no leatherwork, no shooting.
I took on one project doing a fox quiver for a fellow tradganger. It took me 4 months to do it one handed, but its done.
He sent me the HUGE hide stretched and dried hard.
I home tanned it, it was the largest red I've ever worked on. Very greasy, it was good and fat.
Had to put it through the solution twice to degrease. Very tough working the tanned, drying hide one handed/armed. What an eye opener.
Anyway, got it cleaned, shaped and dry. Built the internal quiver of 5-6 ounce veg tan leather. Again, try punching then running thread and lace one handed. Man! No fun.
The pocket and strap components are of Kodiak tanned oiled leather from Tandy. The color matched the red so well I had to use it. Used a tine from a local shed as the pocket flap clinch.
I prefer very natural looking quivers when made of fur so I held off on all the feathers and beads and such. Just leather and bone.
The throat is lined with short knapped sheepskin that I had to shear down very thin to get in the face/throat without restricting space.
Lots of sewing for the shoulder pad.
Anyway, thought you guys and gals might appreciate seeing it. Feeling better by the day now. Will do a how to in the near future on pelt quivers in detail.
