What's For Supper ?
« on: July 06, 2012, 08:32:00 PM »
That is what the wife asked knowing I would be off work today. I looked in the freezer and found an elk roast from last year. I am going to fire up the smoker.
First I trimmed all the silver skin and wrapped the roast in bacon.

I put the leftover bacon in the smoker to have BLT's for lunch.

While the meat was smoking , I headed to the shop to  work on some hunting arrows.

Lunch!

I must add here the importance of keeping well hydrated while smoking meat in this heat !

After lunch , While watching the meat and keeping "hydrated ", I started test firing my new arrows. This is going to be my elk set up for this year. Dalaa 17 in. riser with Border Hex 6 limbs , 62 in. 50 # at my draw . The arrows are CX Heritage 350's with 300 gr. head 730 gr. total.

Meat looks done !

Beats that can of tuna I had. (I'm on a diet.) But I'mm heading to St. Augustine, FL in the morning on vacation, so it will be fresh seafood tomorrow night. That elk looks delicious. What do you serve with it?

Your cooking is alot like my own.....wrap whatever it is in bacon and smoke it.  That Elk roast looks beautiful.  Heck, I had to show it to the wife cuz it's right up her alley....she said "way to go" on using the leftover bacon for BLT's!     :notworthy:

Hey Bill, Here's an idea for your leftover bacon..(if you don't already know this one)
Cover it liberally with brown sugar, sprinkle it with ground cayenne (just a little if you want a bite....a little more if you like the spice)  throw it in the smoker til crispy and a little gooey....it's amazing!!!  Will really help with that Hydrating liquid you are using. But I warn you, it's addictive!!  Helps if the bacon is thick cut.

Bill - you sure know how to make someone's stomach growl!!!!

Where in SC PA did you find Linies?

That ILF rig you have set up should zip a heavy arrow quite smartly!

Hope the elk was tasty.
