Slow and consistent, good enough for me.

Call it, being a creature of habit, blame it on age, or what you will, ive discovered that for me a slower, consistent, bow shooting a heavy arrow suits me just fine, compared to some of the fast and furious bows out there. If your choice of bows is a screamer, i support you 100% , but for me, the gentle thump and the graceful arc of slower and consistent  arrow hitting the mark is part of the enjoyment of archery. Speed dont kill but arrow placement does, no matter your choice in gear.
Any other slower bow fans out there?

I know what you mean. My laminated self bow is slower than my others but I enjoy shooting it more than any other bow. It's the quietest too!

I too like a slower bow. It seems im less consistant with a faster one. My hunting rig is 63#  with a 650 gr arrow and its perfect.

I bumped my arrow weight up recently. Went from arrows that were 465 gr during hunting season to a 550 gr arrow now.....that's what i'll use this coming season. This is out of a 45# bow.  Arrows are definitely slower but i like the way they're shooting. Nice quiet thump.

You fellas brought up a good point, quiet is also a great attribute to a slower bow heavy shaft combo.
For me its a great trade off for a little more speed.

We shoot what pleases us .. Myself I like bows that are fast. As long as it is shootable and quiet. If it isn't than speed is for nothing.
I've had bows that were slow,noisy and shocky also.

Your absolutely right Scott. Shoot what pleases you. I enjoy my faster bows too don't get me wrong but there's just something about my go to bow. It's all a journey and we are all on our own path. Enjoy the journey no matter where it takes you.

Motherlode, I agree, shoot what pleases you, no matter what bow we shoot, its the enjoyment and challenge of trad. that brings us all together. Theres no wrong or right here, just a common interest for the challenge we choose to accept.

I agree, shoot what you like.  However, there seems to be the implication that slow is consistent and fast isn't.  I don't buy that.  I shot wood, mostly pretty heavy wood, for about 50 years.  Have just started to dabble in carbon.  The ones I'm shooting are lighter and faster than my woods, but no less consistent.  In fact, as much as i hate to admit it, I think they're more consistent.

I didnt say the are not consistent. I said i am not as consistent with a faster bow. I like to see the flight of my arrow. With a  slower bow i can.  I shoot heavy wood and aluminum. Im glad we can all shoot what we like.

 How fast is it? If you asked me....I dont have a damn clue! I havent pulled out my Chrony in a long time.
Shooting a combo of gap and point of aim though, I know I'd rather shoot a heavier arrow because I have to raise that bow/arrow point up closing "the gap". A very fast bow for my shooting style makes for a huge gap.

Shoot the one you love...bows that is. We probably all see..or don't see the arrow or point from different perspectives..or views according to how we anchor, hold our head and how we aim or don't aim, etc.

I don't use gap or what I call point on when hunting. I see the shaft with peripheral vision while looking where I want to hit. My right eye is looking straight down the top of it focused on where I want it to go..flatter the arrow flies the less adjustment I have to make...the way I see the arrow. I add just enough weight to dampen.

I like a fast bow because I can shoot a heavier arrow and still have a fairly flat trajectory out to 30 yards. That said I am shooting a 650 grain arrow off a 55# bow.

I shoot exactly the same way. I've always called it gap/point of aim. I dont shoot point on because I cant. My arrow no matter how its set up will fly over the target point on unless I'm 40 yards + away. Since I hunt 25 yards and under, ....I'll never be point on.

Yup, I'm a slow bow kinda guy. First thing I do when I get a new bow, is throw the fast flight string in the drawer, and put on B50.

Then big Wool Yarn Silencers. Then make up a quiver full of 20% FOC 12.5 grain per pound arrows, and I'm ready to go!

Can barely hear my bow go off. I like the quietness of the bow, and I seem to hit my mark much better with a slower bow. And thats my main concern. Got to hit them right to kill them!

I shoot a 65pound recurve with 725gr arrow. Nonvented broadheads. It is very quiet!! It hits hard too!

58# and 61# with a 750 gr arrow is a great setup for me. Quiet and hits like a tank

My hunting partner is still shooting a wheel bow and though he's shooting quite a bit faster even he has noticed that my arrows seem to hit just as hard or more so.

hunt whitetails from a treestand along a trail in dense woods with a maximum shot of 18 yards?

sure, trajectory doesn't matter much.  slow, heavy, hard-hitting.  i get it.

but hunting on the move, in west texas and colorado?  

it sure enough does.
