bow fishing reels?

Can you use a regular bass reel for bowfishing or do I need to just get an actual setup made to bowfish with?

You will need a Catfish type reel, have used a TI20 or 808, works great, or a drum reel.

K, I would go to a rural king, walmart or farm store, they usually sale the TI20 shakespeare for about 18.00, get some masonary line (not as good as bowfishing line, but works).  I have a reel seat and strap on adapter, from 3 rivers.  but in old days, just used a rod and electical anchor and electrical tape, holds well.

I used a zebco 808 for years. I like them more than any of the retriever style bowfishing rigs.
