I've threatened to name a couple of mine Firewood-one that had so much handshock, my hand was numb after a dozen shots, and one that I tore a ligament to my ring finger while drawing.

The bow I'm currently shooting goes by "killer B" named for the osage stripe laminated between some black phenolic in a grey action wood riser that I made. That Oasage is really yellow for a while not so much now!

I was target shooting out back one morning, after an end of three arrows from 20 yards, I noticed a hawk sitting in a tree watching me from not twelve yards away, while I pulled arrows from the target butt. These were freshly fletched wood arrows with 5 1/2 inch bright yellow fletches. I thought momentarily about how I could shoot that bird, but in the next instant thought better of myself and the bird.   :scared:   The arrow hit the bull and the hawk flew away. Hence the name "HAWK: for that bow......It(the memory) was a gift given, for me on that day....

I normally don't name my bows, they tend to name themselves... But, I do have an older Black Widow SA III that I named "Reaper" because a lot of things die around that bow...

I've only named one bow.
Here's the story..not much of one..but here it is.

I found this name appropriate as I sold my one good bow (a whip) to get the funds to make my next bow. The first bow I tried to make was an oak board bow..almost worked but it started to chrysal.

Second attempt at a bow was a boo backed ipe. That bow didn't turn out either..pretty sure the ipe wasn't good.

At this point I was running out of money for a bow and was feeling a bit pressed for time to get used to any bow.

I decided to give a boo backed osage a try.
This one actually worked!
After the fury I was in for a couple months to make a working bow I felt like a calm had washed over me after making a working bow.
I named the bow.. Halcyon.
One of the meanings of the word is calming of storms.

I won't name the bowmaker I Recieved a longbow from but it was his personal bow he was selling.  It was beautifull and marked 48@28. I named it Mary.  It was the hardest 48lbs I ever drew.  When I checked it , it was actually 55lbs.  He exchanged it for another stock bow that was less weight.  I named it Mary Mary.  A week later the limb delaminated. A recurve was chosen as replacement and was named Mary Mary Quite Contrary!

Only bow I ever named is the Hill Half Breed in my signature below.  God helped me survive a heart attack this past spring, and the bow was ordered soon afterwards.

I don't name mine but if I did they would have names like:

"Saved a long time"
"Sold a bunch of stuff"
"Couldn't justify it but I'm single so who cares"
"Too pretty to sell"
"Need one before the bowyer retires"

or something along those lines.

I named my first bow after an Amazon warrior. Alcibie, which means strength/power. It was a 75lb bow that nearly broke me.

My latest bow I have kept with the tradition and named after another Amazon. Ainia, which means swiftness.

My new Kempf Trophy Hunter is named "SUGAR MAMA" because my wife bought it for me and she makes more money than I do and that's my nickname for her.  The bow is a sweet shooter too;)

"TEXAS TWIN" my hunting buddy and I took down a mesquite from his ranch where we both grew up hunting together.  We ship the core to Jack Kempf and he made us matching Qwyk Styks with the mesquite wood in the riser and wedges. Took almost 2 years for the wood to dry out.

I have a trad tech titan. Camo Riser, black limbs with a camo tape on the backs, a shelf rest and side plate from scap leather I had, and the grip I modified with a rasp.  It got the name " Ol' Ugly", cause it is not a looker by any means. Yet I can set that bow aside and play with others for months, and pick up "ol' ugly"  and hit where I am looking at 30yrds.
