Bows no longer made that still hunt
« on: July 14, 2012, 11:39:00 AM »
A lot of great bowyers have come and gone and I thought it might be interesting to see how many of us are still hunting with some of these great bows that are no longer made.
Heres one of my favorites made by the late Charles Wilerford of Ohio, 68" 70@ 28 longbow, all Osage w/clear glass. It sees time in the woods every season.   [/IMG]

I still shoot an original Zipper Zip Stick longbow, Sley recurve, Glenn Parker Greywolf longbow, and a double shelf Green Mountain longbow.....none have been built in quite a few years now.

The last couple of years I've become a real fan of the late Jack Howard's Gamemaster Jet recurve.  Went looking for one in 2009 and one thing led to another and I ended up with 5 of them.  I've never shot a bow that compares with the Gamemaster Jet.  I've had a pretty good run the last couple years and have managed to kill animals with 4 of my Jets.  The other, a 55lber that has likely never been shot, I haven't had the guts to carry to the woods yet.

A couple pics....

2010 Montana elk with my 59 lb Jet:

2010 Indiana whitetail with my 50 lb Jet, checkered grip:

2011 Missouri whitetail with my 51 lb "beater" Jet:

2012 Texas pig with my 60 lb Jet:

We really lost a great bowyer when Jack passed a few years ago.

Ryan, maybe if you practiced a little more you'd have better luck hunting.

I was just given a very special Tice & Watts. It was given to me by a long time friend. He is 74 years old now and said he wanted me to have his bow. This was his go to bow for many many years. You could not beat the smile off of my face with BIG stick. I will be taking it to the woods this year. I think my Zipper's will understand.

Been using a Savage River from Dave Guthery of Appilachian Archery since 1991.  No need to switch.

I still bowhunt Turkey with my old Browning Cobra and use my original Bill Stewart Multi Cam T/D for back up bow on trips. I bowhunt deer with my one piece Groves Spitfire.

I think it's neat that Mike Steglia is offering the original one piece Staghorn recurve again. Too bad no one has brought back the Tice&Watts T/D bow.
The first longbow I had was Ron Maulding's Tamarack longbow, sold it to the late Doug Kerr.
