Arrows for a 51# Strunk Spirit longbow?
«

Hey there, I had John build me one of his beautiful bows, but having a hard time tuning it. Most of my arrows group 20" to the right (left-hand shooter).
I pull 28" and it comes to 51#. Suggestions?
Thanks!

Are you canting the bow when you shoot? It helps, if you have been shooting something more center shot with the bow vertical. If that is not the case, your arrows are way too stiff for that bow. Perhaps 45 spined cedars with 125 grain points, would be a good guess,

sounds like arrows are spined too stiff...or you are plucking the string on release.
if shooting a 125gr head and dont pull further than 28" I would try 35-40# spine....

Hey Brock, I had my Abbott longbow, same poundage. I was keeping them in a 5" circle out to 25 yards.
The problem (for once, HA!) are the arrows, not the archer. I emailed John Strunk, he mentioned a 55# spine for my 50# bow, so now I'm really confused.
I asked him for clarifications. We'll see what he says.
Thanks!

I'm not one to second guess John. But I would think 45/50's would fly pretty good for you.

I use a Hill bow poundage pretty close to yours.
I use Legacy cut to 29" w/125 up front, Fly like straight as an arrow..LOL.

go with what John says...maybe the handle and riser arrow are narrower on that bow than on a regular flatbow.
could always get a 40# spine full length arrow...and shorten a 1/4 at a time until it flies good which would effectively raise the dynamic spine in small increments. If you go too far then you know the length you need.

I had a few strunks and my question is are the arrows doing anything on release, are they making a knock sound or do you see the fletch kick hard right upon release within the 1st 10' of flight?
20" is alot and should show something pretty notciable,, if your not seeing anything really notcable and those arrows are grouping nice but 20" to the left you may have a bow that just has a point of impact 20" to the left maybe because of the riser not being center shot,, I'll personally see this if I go from my palmer recurve right to my selfbow but after a few shots the adjustment is made which should happen with you too.
and like the folks above have said it could be the spine except I think for a lefty bow hitting left means the fletch is kicking right upon relase so thats a weak spine.

I have a 48# Strunk Spirit, it likes 45/50 POC cut to 29 with a 125 point and using a skinny FF string.
