ILF limb/string questions?
«

Have a 15" Morrison riser that is currently set up with a set of D 55# longbow limbs. Want to switch these limbs to a ********/Samick 17" Apex riser. How will that affect poundage?
Likewise, want to put a set of 50# Black Max recurve limbs (total bow length 60" on Apex riser) on the Morrison riser. Can I assume a direct opposite effect on draw weight?
Final question - how do I determine what string length that I will need for each set-up?
Stupid questions, probably, but I'm a newbie to ILF equipment.
Thanks!

Should lose some weight and I do 3" less then length of the bow for the strings usually for recurve.

So I would decrease poundage by going to longer riser, and increase poundage by going to shorter riser? Is there an rule of thumb poundage increase/decrease per riser lenght increase/decrease?
Also, if Black Max limbs on 17" riser was 60", then on 15" Morrison should give me a 58" bow length - correct? So a 55" string?
Should I just add 2" in length to the current bow string that I used on the Morrison limb/15" riser combo to get correct length for Apex riser/Morrison combo?

Man i got a class on this at clarksville this past weekend. I forgot already but do know that from longer to shorter increases poundage I'm thinking 1lb per inch but morrison and titan have their own thing going on. most ilf limbs are based on a 25" riser. I know someone will come along that knows the scoop.

On the takedowns I've played with (not ilfs, which are more adjustable) a 2-inch drop in riser length increased the weight about 2# or a tad more. On Bear T/Ds, the riser lengths vary by 4 inches and yield about a 2-3# difference going from the longer to the next shorter riser. In short, going to a shorter riser increases the weight a few pounds, all other things being equal.

I use a 55" string for my 17" titan with dryad epic shorts (58" bow) and run the brace around 7 1/4" . what brace height do you want to shoot? you could probably go shorter if you want a 8" brace.
cant remember How much you loose, think 2 or 3 pounds per inch but not 100% on that. and ya it gains with a shorter riser. For longbows I think i usually buy them 1.5 - 2" shorter then bow length I use a 56.5" string for my 58" hyrbrid for a 6.5" brace and 60 1/2" for my 62" hybrid for a 6.5" brace.
