New from NY
« on: July 30, 2012, 03:12:00 PM »
My name is Doug and I am very new to traditional archery
I became a certified NASP instructor 2 years ago and teach archery in my PE classes
At school we use the wheelie bows but I would like to get involved in the traditional way
I am researching bows at this time and I am currently making a red oak board bow courtesy of Poor Folks Bows
I was hoping some of you CentrL NY Trad Gangers could help me out with any trad shops in our area that maybe I could test out some bows, find a good draw weight, learn and maybe shoot some
Also any advise you think is important or would help would be great as well
I would really like to say that this is a great site and everyone seems more than happy to help
Thanks in advance
Doug

Welcome Doug!

Glad to have you on board.  There is plenty of good advice here.  I don't know of any local shops that specialize in traditional gear.  Tollgate Traditions, east of you, was a great resource but they have recently scaled back their store.  Very unfortunate.  There is a really good tradional archery rendezvous down in Oxford, NY later in August.  Maybe an hour or hour and a half drive from Cicero.  It might be worth the drive down.  There ia a thread on the Events and Gatherings forum with all the information.  By the way, I lived in Cicero for 40 years!

Welcome from Scotia.

I think Jimmerc is from Cicero. He is a class act. The best way to learn is to hang out with people who have made a lot lot of mistakes.

perhaps we will meet one day!

Welcome!  I grew up not far from Parish, in Camden.  Miss it up there!

Definately try to hook up with some trad guys, and just shoot, shoot, shoot!  Good luck!
