are y'all ready for season
« on: August 01, 2012, 03:50:00 AM »
how are y'all getting ready for the season i have trail cameras to pull thursday and im starting to stop practicing at 40 yards and start shooting broadheads out to 30 while still shooting 6-12 at 40 2ce a week  just to build confidence i just found a nice way to boost my arrow weight so now my recurve is as quiet as my longbow  i put hot glue sticks inside my shaft 1 4" stick weights 60 grains and on top of that i put 3.6 grams of lead shotgun shot on top then i put the arrows in the oven  just till it warmed up to 170 then i waited 2 minutes and took it out and put in in fridge so im up near 700 grains. i picked up a nice book called " the long rifle"  by stweart edward white i believe its a great book ive read it 6 times so far its about 380 pages takes me 4 hours  and 15 minutes to read cover to cover most times im shooting 2 blade muzzy phantoms at 200 grains a week before the season ill buy another pack and test shoot them each once and strop them back to razor sharp and then just leave them in my quiver

im shooting 29.5" 2314's with 1 4" hotglue stick melted inside for an added 60 grains or so and 3.6 grams of lead shot(roughly 55 grains)
any animal you see posted that i say i personally harvested was eaten

I was ready for this season at the end of last season........   :biglaugh:   Seems as I get older I have just as much fun in the prep as in the hunt! Of course that would change if hunted some place the had some deer......   :dunno:

That is the longest sentence I have ever tried to read.

Today, I shot my newly minted arrows with 3 bladed VPAs.
Something clicked, and I hit every mark I picked on the bale.
I had to quit right there, lest I figure out what I was doing right.
Felt good, though.

Try diagramming that sucker...

Antelope season opens in a couple of weeks, and I'm normally not big on goats, but I have some friends that want the meat, so I may give them a shot. My REAL season opens Sept 1, and I am chomping at the bit.

I was up on the mountain yesterday hunting bears...fall bear season opened yesterday. Saw a bear right after daylight, but he got in the timber and disappeared.

Scouted for huckleberries and checked a couple trailcams to keep things interesting.

BTW...I was hunting amongst patches of last winters snow and had to wear a jacket because it was chilly!   :campfire:

Sorry...I know most of the country has been baking all summer.
