ARROWS HITTING LEFT
« on: August 06, 2007, 03:52:00 PM »
i just read a post on hear about a guys hitting right of where he was aiming. i have been strugling with arrows hitting left 6 " left for me some time, not all the time but if i miss its going to be to the left. if i read the thread right this means that my arrows may be too weak. i thought that they were alright because they flew good. i'm shooing tomahawk 50# long bow. i'm right handed and i'm pulling about 29" which gives be about 52-53#. i'm shooing 2016's cut 30.5" and using 125 gr. point. this bow is cut 1/16 from center. does this sound right. any advise would be appriciated! thanks b-dog

I usually shoot left if I pluck the string. I shoot right if I collapse.

Left they are stiff, but if they were flying well , ya may be plucking the string or your string hand is not coming straight back but flying away from your face on release. It sounds like your releaase as your arrow choice seam about right.  Shawn

B-Dog, I just got a Tomahawk Diamond SS. When I first got it I was shooting left. It was the way I was torquing the bow. If I do everything right, it shoots right where I'm looking. My misses are still left. I'm still working on hand placement, and form. I have been mostly shooting recurves for the last 20 years. I know that these bows are not cut to center.  I bare shafted to find the right arrow. *Note* if your doing everything right and it stills shoots left (rh shooter) than the arrow is to stiff. I don't think your 2016 are to stiff, bare shaft testing is the only way to be sure.....Let me know what you find...Mark

Hitting left for a righty would mean the spine is too stiff if it is a spine issue.  Your arrows sound about right for the # and dl.  Try a 145g tip and see what happens.  You stated, "if i read the thread right this means that my arrows may be too weak" - possible you got mixed up because if the nock end is pointing left on impact that indicates a weak spine but the arrow will impact right of target and vice versa for stiff.  Again, that is if it is a spine issue but it could be a few things like -your release as stated by BobCo or torquing the grip.  For what it's worth; I check the spine of my arrows by shooting the target from about 10ft with the target about chest high and look at the impact (shoot vertical not canted).  If it looks good I will back up to about 15' and check it all the way to about 15yds. Nearly all the time the impact from 10ft tells me what I need to know; nock left-weak; nock right-stiff, nock up or down move it up or down.  Hope this helps.  Oh, and that's either bare shaft or with feathers.

I'd be hard pressed to believe those arrows are too stiff for you, I'm with the others I think it's a shooting issue.

Since you're right handed, when you do encounter a spine issue, left means STIFF, right means WEAK.  But in this case I'm not inclined to think it is a spine issue.
