Fishburglar.. I advise that you check your local library for "Traditional Bowyers Bible" volume 1.

There's enough information in that single book to teach you how to make a bow.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Since getting pulled into the bow making sickness some years back, both primative and glass backed, I've come to believe that fiberglass is fun but wood is WONDERFUL!
Both are great to have but there is something about an all wood bow, or wood and sinew, that just captures the imagination.

Here is one of my all time favorites I crafted:  Osage and sinew recurve.  Man, I wish I had not given it to my son!  Ha Ha

Peter, nice looking bow...how is that Guava wood working out for you, my Grandfather use to tell me stories about how he and his brothers as kids use to make sling shots made from the limbs and how strong they were.

No matter how you slice it...it tastes that much better when it was earned the hard way.

Iron Man2

Guava is indeed a great bow wood. very simple look, clean grain and seems tokeep it's color well. Is it stronger than any other, I don't know. But for a self bow I can tell you this bow has little or no back set to the limbs.
I can only assume that it is a rare wood and therefore not as common as the many wood choice we see here.
