Just finished putting the second deer in the cooler. Did it right this time( compared to last weeks spine shot) and got a complete pass through, liver and one lung due to the quartering away angle. Deer hopped, trotted off about 20 feet, looked back, walked another 30 feet and laid down and started nibbling on palmetto berries. In less than 5 minutes she just laid her head down and died. Thats how its done. Absolutely no struggle. She just went out.
Ironically, this is the same deer I untangled from the a field wire fence Thursday night. She was a fawn of this year and I don't think she weighed 50 pounds. But she will cook up good and tender!
My management "plan" is to take 1 buck, 1 mature doe and 1 fawn. If I get a big buck in range I might modify that a little but if not, Its been a good season already.
