My bow is dead
« on: August 05, 2012, 09:32:00 PM »
I was packing up my camping gear at a the Traditional Bowhunters of Washington shoot today when tragedy struck.  It was 93 out with no shade available so I wanted to unstring my Sovereign Ballistik static tip recurve.  Couldn't find the selway cup and block stringer I usually use so against my better judgement I borrowed my buddies double cup stringer.  The top tip is shaped like an arrow and didn't go as far as I would have likes into the pocket.  My friend assured me it would be fine (not blaming him) and I went for it.  As I pull up on the bow it popped loose and smacked me in the neck.  I might have said some words I hope my five year old doesn't repeat.  I looked at the limbs and top one looked like it could possibly be ever so slightly twisted.  It is hard to tell for sure with those limbs.  I searched my truck again and found my stringer.  Strung it up and all looked well.  Pulled it back to check alignment and pow. No more top limb.  Delaminated down to the wedge.  I am now trying to find somebody to make limbs to fit what was my favorite bow of all time.

That's one reason to shoot a longbow.

Brings tears to the eyes.

I had one spin sway from me when stringing and had a twist.  I was able to work it out with hot water and careful heat gun (plastic shrink temp - closer to hair dryer than paint stripper heat) and it is OK now.  I was sure sweating bullets that first draw after straightening.

Man... sorry about your bow.  Glad you faired better than your bow.  I hope you find some new limbs for her.

Very sorry to hear about someone losing a favorite bow.  I'm glad you are OK, though.

This is only speculation, but I wonder if there is any chance Rivers Edge Recurves (www.rerbows.com) might be able to help you?  They make static recurves, and I have it in mind the he had some sort of connection to John Fazio of Sovereign.  Maybe not, but it couldn't hurt to check...

I know the feeling... sort of.  I had an accidental dry-fire (nock slipped off the string and I didn't realize it), and ripped the top tip out of my Black Widow recurve.  A dry-fire with a 60# bow drawn 31" is murder on the limb tips.  And that bow was given to me by my dad as a way to pass on his archery heritage.

But life goes on.  You will find something to fill the void!

Dang it.  Could be while before you find a set of Sovereign limbs for sale.

I jumped in my truck today and had forgotten a Kodiak Hunter was in there from yesterday.  Dang near too hot to touch.  I gently removed it and placed it in the shade.  After it cooled I shot it a few times and seems all is well.

Actually send it to me and pay the freight both ways and cost of my materials and I will build you a set. When I answered your email I didn't know the circumstance. If you don't like my limbs you won't have a ton invested. If you do like them great. We all be happy.

God bless you, Steve
