Why do you want what you can't have?
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:50:00 PM »
I shoot regularly with a friend of mine who has been shooting for 15 years or so. He has aqquired quite a few bows over the years. He has a son and a daughter that used to shoot with him but have since grown out of it but he still has the bows they used to shoot and they are his "can't sell" bows. Today while I was shooting with him he went in and grabbed his sons #60 Robertson vision falcon. Normally #60 is quite a bit heavy for me but man this thing is smooth and really smokes an arrow. Everytime we shoot it I get jealous that it will never be in my collection. Does anyone else have similar experiences or is it just me?

It's human nature to desire more than we have.  It isn't too hard, at least for me, to be happy with less though.  I'd rather have one good shooting bow, plenty of arrows for it, and a quality quiver than have a bunch of bows that I haven't taken the time to really get to know.

When I want something I can't have, I learn how to make it.  One day I'm going to build my own Custom Motorcycle.  Once I get better at welding.

If I have something, I stop thinking about wanting to have it, therefore I spend my time wanting things I dont have.   :dunno:

Heck... you walk into Red Lobster, Longhorn steakhouse, etc. and you are famished.  You carefully study the menu to find the "perfect meal"... the one that will leave you totally satisfied.  You place your order with a bit of smugness, realizing you have picked the perfect meal.  As the waitress walks away, another waitress brings out the dinners for the couple sitting at the table next to you.  You then realize you didn't order the perfect meal... but that you want THAT ONE!!!  They ordered the perfect meal!  Ain't we humans a weird bunch?

I suppose if mankind didn't have that "flaw" that we would never conquer, never invent, and never move up the ladder.  It is our constant desire to improve... to aquire, and to have better tings that makes us continue to strive to improve and change.  Not saying it is all good, for if we were easier to satisfy, the world would proabably be a better place IMO.

use to have that feeling alot with bows. but after buying my titan I really dont have the itch to get another bow anytime soon, eventually want a d shaped bow but it can wait, after buying my current compound I have no urge to get a new one or anything for it.   just have to get the one I guess and it goes away.  Now I really really REALLY  want a new guitar amp and itching to buy a peavy jsx or XXX. I want it so bad its not even funny lol.  Considering unloading one of my hybrids and a compound to fund it.

Because the wanting is usually better than the having.  The more things you own the more they own you. I was never very good at that wisdom but as I've aged the reality of it is becoming clearer. Like they say, beware the man with only one gun or bow because he most likely knows how to shoot it well.

Josh,
I think everyone has experiences like that.  Which is why I consider myself lucky to shoot left handed!!    :D   When I shoot with my buddies, I know that their bows will do me no good so I don't want them!!  and trust me, I've tried to get several of them to switch sides, including Steve, with hopes of them acquiring some new bows that will do me some good    ;)   By the way, we need to get together and shoot again......I had a real good time.  Round up Steve and you guys get down here sometime.

Take care,
Jason

Rick Springsteen had that problem with "Jesse's Girl" but luckily most bows we want a duplicate can be obtained these days.

I think the reason we are always wanting more is because we rarely persevere at waiting on the right thing. Most of us are always settling for less just to satisfy the " I WON'T IT RIGHT NOW ATTITUDE " we Americans usually have. Now I don't mean to emply that everyone feels this way, but i do believe alot of us do.. JMO

I want a lot of things, but can't afford it all...so I get what I need and then a SMALL percent of stuff I want. That leaves a lot of things I still want in my want list. LOL.
Until next time...good shooting,
Lee

I hear ya, the Titan is on my list, I could get it but can't justify spending the cash right now. On the other hand I have a vintage Ampeg 200 watt tube amp if you are looking for that classic rock sound. That may bring me enough cash for the riser, LOL!

If I have two bows *one as a backup) and really like them both I feel very blessed. The older I get the less I want.
