Advice for a 31 inch DL
« on: August 09, 2012, 07:19:00 PM »
Hello
I am drawing 62lbs at 31".  I have tried 340 carbons with 125 heads and they shoot weak.   I want a heavier spine and heavier arrow.  It seems like everything I try to add weight makes the spine weaker.  What do you fellow knuckle draggers shoot that is heavier in weight and still have enough spine?

Thanks

Eric

You might try building your side plate out a little to make your bow slightly less center shot so that it likes a weaker arrow. Your 340's might work then.

I have your draw length, but not your muscles.

I shoot 70# @ 30 ish and I prefer wood for heavy spine arrows that work without the hassle. Check with Fletcher(a sponsor here) and he can give you some good advise with heavy woods for your needs.

I would recomend bamboo and then add brass rod to the front to add weight.

I shoot 63lbs @ 31", I shoot GT Traditional75/95 full length with 225grs up front. They are .300 spine. Used them on two different bows now with good results.

Three years shooting recurves I have had 4 limb issues with 4 bows.  I am slow learning and have figured out that 8G per pound is not enough for longer draw lengths.  Would like to have a finished arrow weight around 650-700.

Thanks for your responses I will try some of them.

I also pull 31", and find that the charts and advice hasn't worked well for me.  I just had to bareshaft and figure it out.  I have a 69# recurve that I shoot 2419 aluminums out of now -- full length -- and they are the ticket for me, this bow, and 200 grain heads.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

I pull 31", too with some of my bows. For my 64-65@31" r/d bows, I use the AD Hammerheads full length with the standard aluminum insert and anywhere from a 125 to a 175 grain point.  Total arrow weight ends up being 625 to 675 grains.

I also use gt 7595s, 50 grain inserts and 175 grain points, but prefer the Hammerheads.

I draw 31,5" and like high FOC arrows so:
out of 58-60# bows at my draw i use GT Big Game 100+ shaft with 350 gr point+insert (720 gr finished arrow)
Out of my heavier bow 66# i use GT kinetic 200 with 400 gr point+insert for a finished arrow in the 805 gr
Those set up give me a really perfect bare shaft flight up to 25 yards.
La critique est aisée mais l'art est difficile.
