I'm a Tomahawk fan myself. They are a little bit on the high end of the market as far as price but they shoot great!

I'd say a Proghorn, super stable, super accurate and plenty quick.

But you can get a used Robertson on the Classifieds for under $200 lately!  Sorry, but you cant beat that.

A Bear Montana wins!~
Alot of other bows posted are good but some are pricey.
A Montana is a heck of a bow for the price. I got my first whitetail with one when I was seeing if this trad stuff was for me.

You should definitely check out Kegan McCabe's Omega longbows.  A lot of value for the money......and they are fast indeed.  They don't have fancy wood, usually oak riser & hard maple limb cores.  Don't expect the kind of finish you'll get on a $500 bow, but they are built to hunt and shoot fast.   http://www.omegalongbows.webs.com/

Chad Holm makes a very good longbow.  I have 30" draw and picked up on of his Goshawks, I really love it.

I have 2 R/D bows by Chad Holm, an Osprey and a Goshawk.....tough to beat for the money. I have a Kohannah that's real nice also. Monday I have a used Northern Mist Baraga coming to the stable and I'm betting it's gonna be nice as well.

Agree x2 awsome bow. Easy to get one. But if I could wait, I'd order a NM superior. But again not for a first .

I got a Navajo Stick Caddo model from Roy Hall. I don't know what his new ones are like mine is about 15 years old. It's a good shooter. Fast and quiet.
