Well, Tyler & I were in the woods alittle after 6am. We sat in the sacred "stone circle" where I shot a spikehorn a few years back, and have missed many more over the years.....
We didn't see anything but a few VERY uncooperative tree rats this morning!!! About 9:30, I started to notice that Tyler was getting cold. (He trys to be like his old man, but seems to forget that I work outdoors 365 days a year) We headed out, got coffee and egg samiches to refuel, then headed home for some insulated pants and a wool sweater for Tyler. Then, we headed back down to the cemetary.
Tyler wanted to walk up some squirrels (???) so, I looked at it as an opportunity for him to practice his stillhunting skills, and check out the property to get his bearings. We stillhunted the entire perimiter of the cemetary property, seeing a few more uncooperative squirrels, coming out right next to my ladder stand. It was just a short walk to the stone circle, and about noon, so I decided alittle "stump shooting" practice was in order.....
Well, THAT was a mistake!!!!! The first target I picked for Tyler was about a 22 yarder... We both drew our judos... Tyler's arrow was gone before I even hit my anchor. 1 dead Pepsi can!!!!! I just let my string down and said, "I might as well put mine away!!!" We saw something shiney about 30 yards and I said "shoot that Tyler"... He let fly, and his arrow hit just about an inch above!!! Tyler went to get his arrow and said "Jeez Dad, That's a HUBCAP!!! (from my uncle's old 40something Plymouth I think) I just laughed and said, "Yeah well you missed it!!!" To which Tyler replied... "YEAH, It's a good thing too! It would have messed up my Judo!!!"
We climbed into the "stone circle" for our evening sit, it was about 1pm. We saw a few more squirrels, but none would give him a shot. We sat untill about 5;30. I would have liked to have sat longer, but I had to get him fed and home to his Mom. It was a long day for my little Penobscot Warrior.....
We did not see any deer, But... On the way out, I looked to the sky, and I thanked The Great One for a VERY, VERY, "Good Day"
